This two-year old is just the cutest thing. She is so sweet and charming. She poses and smiles when you ask her. And she hugs you if you give her a frown or a "crying" look. She loves my markers on her face (see the colored "stick-on" she has on her cheeks..:)

One thing I love so much about her is her not being a cry baby. She doesn't throw tantrums often. If she wants something she tries to talk to you until you give in.She could beg and say please or she could kiss you on the cheek. If all else fails, she'll ask you why she can't have what she wants - sometimes making her own justifications.

One day, she asked me if she could play with my phone. After many attempts, I said no. So she said, "lowbat?" (Is your phone running on a low battery?"...

Oh, I could go on and on...There are so much I can say about this cute little punkashlot...

Just took a picture of these two grandfathers who went around caroling with a guitar and a violin. Never thought carolers like them still exist. Merry Christmas!

Yesterday, I attended a video production on gender advocacy. While waiting for the videos to get played I had the chance to have a conversation with the Gender Program Coordinator. We talked about sexual harassment, gender sensitivity and women empowerment ...and...marriage.

She agreed with me that husbands and wives should give each other space and respect each other's individuality. Being new to the married life, i told her that I, sometimes (most of the time:)), have found it difficult to submit to my husband. Some arguments are silenced down not because we have come into agreement with our views but because one has become tired of arguing. So she asked, "Did you understand what your husband meant to tell you? Do you think he is right?"

Most arguments that my husband and I have are work related. You see, we work in the same company and we often argue about procedures and protocols. The funny thing there is, most of the time we mean the same things. I often realize this before he does. That's why, my wicked stubborn self, gets to play with the limelight. I don't settle down because of two things: (1) I wanted to play with his arguments, turning it around until he gets confused and tired, and (2) I thought that I sometimes have to stand up to what I believe is true. I don't settle because I want him to be the one to let down his guards and agree to a compromise (even if I know that  we want the same things)...

Then she (Gender Prog Coordinator) uttered a line that changed my view on feminism forever. She said, "SUBMITTING TO YOUR HUSBAND DOES NOT MAKE YOU LESS OF A FEMINIST..."

I will Derive!

I find this video amusing. It looks funny but if you understand calculus you'll know that it teaches some concepts..."there's just one way to find the slope...i will deriiive..."

Inspired by this I had my students make videos that would somehow relate to the Mathematics course they're enrolled in. I might be posting them in a few days.:)

Ikaw, May Pangarap Ka Rin Ba?

bata1: anong kukunin mo?

bata2: bs math.

bata1: ah! magteacher ka?

bata2: hindi. baka magteacher ako.

bata1: ah. akala ko kasi magti-teacher ka eh....

Finite Simple Group of Order Two

wahehehe

Finite Simple Group (of Order Two)
A Klein Four original by M. Salomone

The path of love is never smooth
But mine’s continuous for you
You’re the upper bound in the chains of my heart
You’re my Axiom of Choice, you know it’s true

But lately our relation’s not so well-defined
And I just can’t function without you
I’ll prove my proposition and I’m sure you’ll find
We’re a finite simple group of order two

I’m losing my identity
I’m getting tensor every day
And without loss of generality
I will assume that you feel the same way

Since every time I see you, you just quotient out
The faithful image that I map into
But when we’re one-to-one you’ll see what I’m about
‘Cause we’re a finite simple group of order two

Our equivalence was stable,
A principal love bundle sitting deep inside
But then you drove a wedge between our two-forms
Now everything is so complexified

When we first met, we simply connected
My heart was open but too dense
Our system was already directed
To have a finite limit, in some sense

I’m living in the kernel of a rank-one map
From my domain, its image looks so blue,
‘Cause all I see are zeroes, it’s a cruel trap
But we’re a finite simple group of order two

I’m not the smoothest operator in my class,
But we’re a mirror pair, me and you,
So let’s apply forgetful functors to the past
And be a finite simple group, a finite simple group,
Let’s be a finite simple group of order two
(Oughter: "Why not three?")

I’ve proved my proposition now, as you can see,
So let’s both be associative and free

I Am Me

From Chicken Soup For The Soul

I am me.

In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. There are people who have some parts like me but no one adds up exactly like me. Therefore, everything that comes out of me is authentically mine because I alone choose it.

I own everything about me- my body, including everything it does; my mind, including all my thoughts and ideas; my eyes, including the images of all they behold; my feelings, whatever they might be- anger, joy, frustration, love, disappointment, excitement; my mouth and all the words that come out of it- polite, sweet and rough, correct or incorrect; my voice, loud and soft; all my actions, whether they be to others or myself.

I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears.

I own all my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes.

Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By so doing, I can love me and be friendly with me in all my parts. I can then make it possible for all of me to work in my best interests.

I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other aspects that I do not know. But as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for the solutions to the puzzles and for ways to find out more about me.

However I look and sound, whatever I say and do and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is me. This is authentic and represents where I am at that moment in time.

When I review later how I looked and sounded, what I said and did, and how I thought and feel, some parts may turn out to be unfitting. I can disregard that which is unfitting and keep that which proves fitting, and invent something new for that which I discarded.

I can see, hear, feel, think, say and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive, to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me.

I own me and therefore I can engineer me.

I am me and I am okay.(Chicken Soup For The Soul)
